World Fitness Day (#WorldFit) Recap

This past Saturday I had the privilege to cover World Fitness Day as a blogger (as did the rest of the ladies in the above picture). Admittedly, when it comes to working out and fitness, I’m not much of a class person. I can’t quite put my finger on why that is, but I do much better one-on-one or even by myself — heck, give me a pair of running shoes or a bike and I’m good.
But I know tons of people who love their classes. And that’s what made World Fitness Day such a great event. It was the biggest class workout, led by some of the leading fitness experts and trainers in the world (Denise Austin, Billy Blanks, Debbie Allen, Richard Simmons, and of course, Jane Fonda). When I found out that Jane Fonda was 72, my jaw hit the floor. Amazing. She (along with the other trainers, all of whom are at least 45 I believe) is a testament to what eating healthy and staying active can do for you as you age.
I arrived that dreary Saturday morning a little tired and not super enthused because, well, I was up at 7am on a Saturday morning. And I’m not a morning person. But as I walked around and felt the energy and excitement in the place, I couldn’t help but become a little more energetic myself. It was contagious. We (or rather, they) started off with a video message from Governor Schwarzenegger, and the Dr. Sanjay Gupta hit the stage. No, he didn’t work out. He said some things that doctors always tell you about—ok, I really didn’t hear what he said, but I’m sure people were motivated and informed. Jane came out, introduced the trainers, warmed everyone up, and they did they’re thing. And I stood by and watched. And I still had a blast — mostly because I love to people watch and this was prime.
After everyone else (that’s right, I didn’t do a thing) got all sweaty, the Pointer Sisters and Ludacris hit the stage. To be honest, I was probably more excited to see the Pointer Sisters than anyone else. Weird, right? Don’t get me wrong, seeing Richard Simmons in person was absolutely hilarious, and seeing Billy Blanks made me definitely want to get back into shape, but the Pointer Sisters? Come on! Who doesn’t know, “I’m So Excited,” and, “Jump (For My Love)”? Don’t get me wrong, Luda was cool (let me tell you, when “How Low” came on, some folks forgot that this was a family event and got their Magic City Certified workout on. So serious), but for me, he didn’t beat the Pointer Sisters. Sorry, Luda.
All in all, I loved the event, and even though I didn’t break a sweat, I had a great time! I cannot wait to see how #WorldFit develops in the years to come. Check out a few pictures I snapped with my wonderful BlackBerry. (And yes, I’m well aware that I need a real digital camera. If you’d like to find that project, I’ll give you the PayPal link.)

And in case you needed some Pointer Sisters action… You’re welcome! (Seriously, you can’t listen to these and not even think about dancing!)
