I’m a Crush Slut
Twitter is notorious for being nosy (and that’s one of the reasons I love it) and it’s trending topics never fail to amaze me. Recently, a trending topic about crushes caught my attention… #Igottacrushon.
Ah, crushes. I won’t go into reminiscing about having crushes “back in the day” because I still have crushes today. Yep… I have a couple of crushes right now. Today.
See, I’m the type of person to have a few crushes going on at the same time, but no one will ever know. I’m very private in that way — I normally don’t voice any interest about someone to anyone else unless I’m sure that I want to follow through with that interest. So if you’re someone that I’ve voiced an interest in or about (maybe not to you, but to someone else, you are in the minority — perhaps in more ways than one) and if by some random chance, you know who you are, count yourself as privileged. Because not everyone is talked about by me. Ok, I talk about a lot of people, but not in that way.
Because I have little interests here and there, I try to hide the fact that I’m a crush slut. Yeah, a crush slut. I just made that up. It’s someone who crushes on different people very frequently for, perhaps, no solid or completely justified reason.
I might crush on someone just because they’re cute, fly, or fine. It could be what they’re wearing or how they walk. Maybe it’s because I like what their hair and they have a nice smile. Perhaps they cooked for me and it was good — because I’m a sucker for good food. Maybe because they make me laugh. Perhaps the reason for the crush is because they challenge me, make me think. But there is one prerequisite for a potential crush — they have to be physically attractive. Sorry. Call me shallow, or whatever you’d like, but if I’m gonna have a crush on someone, they have to at least be pleasing to the eye — at least to my eye.
So if I’m crushing on all these different people, what does that really mean? What is a crush, as I see it?
A crush is the initial, “Hrmm.” It happens when I see some quality — physical, mental, or emotional — or characteristic in a person that I like or enjoy. It makes me wonder if there’s any type of potential for more. There’s no guarantee that if I have a crush on someone that something will develop, but I’m wondering. That’s all. Heck, I might not even have a relationship with the person, it could be a random girl at school or Starbucks, but I can still enjoy something about them, right?
Now, rarely does the crush manifest into anything significant. In fact, most of the time, the crush just wanes and eventually dies, but occasionally there is more. If there is more, well, you’d know it. I’ll leave it at that.
Ok, wait, before I leave it at that, let me say this: Whether the crush moves onto anything more depends highly upon what the crush is based off. If it’s purely a physical crush, which, honestly, most of them are, then I’ll probably be “on to the next one” sometime soon. Just being honest. If the crush is based on something deeper, than perhaps something could develop, or at the very least, I’m more likely to consider that option.
What if I have a crush on you? Should you be worried?
Let me ask you this: Have you been worried up to this point? Or better yet, can you pick out a point in time when you knew I began to crush on you? If you can’t, what are you worried about? The crush must not be that serious and thus you haven’t any need to worry about me doing anything about it. Or perhaps it’s just not there yet. If you can tell I have a crush on you, well, enjoy it — why wouldn’t you? I’m not one to act jealous or overly protective for no reason, so you’ve got nothing to worry about. If I want something more than a crush with someone, you’ll know. Trust me.
By the way, I will not be answering, “Stuart, have you ever or do you now have a crush on so and so?” questions, ok? Thanks.

LOVE IT!!! I think this is hilarious and honest and I can so identify with it. I might not be quite as bad as you with the crushes, but I can admit that I have my fair share of them from time to time! Thanks for being so open and honest! Actually, what else would I expect!
I’m a crush slut as well glad to know there is a name for the malady lol.
