Six Weeks Without Secular Music (#SWWSM): The Idea

Anyone who would dispute the idea that music is a powerful thing hasn’t listened to enough of it. With a given song, we may be reminded of any variety of events, people or both. You’re instantly transported back to a scenario where that song was playing. Most likely what you remember isn’t vague or cloudy, but instead crystal clear. read more

Man Versus Money: What Women Want: Part Three

What have we learned, class? We’ve talked about how women need verbal affirmation concerning her appearance from their man more than anyone else. And we’ve also learned that sometimes when a woman shares her problems with her man, it’s not so he can solve them, but rather so they can be understood and heard. Remember that? Good… Today I want to dispel the “gold digger” notion (at least for the portion of the adult female population who are serious about being in a legitimate, healthy — notice the qualifiers there — relationships). So, fellas, here’s what you need to know… read more

Why She Cares About Her Appearance: What Women Want: Part Two

Last week, in an attempt to help out every man in a relationship, I talked about how, despite what most men think, women are not that complicated. It’s simply a case of men not truly wanting to understand their lady. We also talked about  how she wants her feelings to be heard and understood, not solved. This week, we’ll deal with an issue that many, if not every, man has dealt with — women’s appearances. Men, here’s what you need to know: read more

Accepting Responsibility Instead of Running Away

Have you ever said to yourself, “You know what? I’ve just got to get out of here, get away from all this, and do something different. I need to move!”?

In preparing for my summer travels, I said exactly that. Although I wasn’t planning a permanent move, only a vacation, I still felt that need to get away from the normalcy of my life and do something different. I just needed some kind of change. Little did I know what that change would really mean. read more

Have You Overpacked Your Life?

Since the beginning of June, I’ve spent only eleven days at home. I spent two weeks in New York and Boston, a week in Chicago, and now, although I’m “home” in Atlanta, I’m house and dog-sitting for some friends. (And I’m preparing to head to Haiti in 10 days.) While this is a most unusual schedule for me, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Over this time away from home I’ve learned quite a few things, but one sticks out more than the others. read more

The Reason Men Love Women Who Cook

I love to eat. Ask anyone who knows anything about me and they will emphatically confirm that. So it should come as no surprise that I, along with most men in the world, love a woman who can cook. There is just something so attractive and wonderful about a women who can create all the things that your stomach craves (and look good doing it). read more

Why You Shouldn’t Blog For Money

I recently read a piece from David Risley called, “A Blog Is Not A Business,” in which he talked about how blogging (in and of itself) is not a business model. I wholeheartedly agree with Risley’s post and as I was reading, I forced myself to consider why I blog. read more

Watermelon Smoothies & Lessons in Race

As a friend of mine was returning from her lunch break yesterday, a coworker asks, “Hey, what did you get for lunch?” My friend says, “A smoothie.” Her coworker replies, “What kind of smoothie? Watermelon?” read more

In The Midst Of “I Don’t Know”

[tweetmeme] Burst couldn’t be a more appropriate word. I hung up the phone and burst into tears. Like a water balloon too full, tears spilled out of my eyes, down my cheeks and chin, and landed on the table below. My ears heard the words, they understood the sentences they formed, but my mind wouldn’t let me process or comprehend what I had just heard. I couldn’t fathom why a person would do such a thing.

Is It Beauty, Brains, Or Both?

I’m shallow; I’ll admit it. I judge people by their appearances. I make assumptions about their personality and the lifestyle based of what I see. Chances are good you have or do too.
