Why She Cares About Her Appearance: What Women Want: Part Two

Last week, in an attempt to help out every man in a relationship, I talked about how, despite what most men think, women are not that complicated. It’s simply a case of men not truly wanting to understand their lady. We also talked about how she wants her feelings to be heard and understood, not solved. This week, we’ll deal with an issue that many, if not every, man has dealt with — women’s appearances. Men, here’s what you need to know: read more

Where Have You Been, Stuart?

You may (or may not) have noticed that I’ve been much less active on Twitter and Facebook this past week. And I definitely didn’t write a blog. Why’s that you ask? For one, I’ve been on a bit of a vacation — a much overdue vacation at that. Two, I’ve got so much on my mind that I really don’t know how to consolidate it down into one post. But I’ll work on it. read more

Why You Shouldn’t Blog For Money

I recently read a piece from David Risley called, “A Blog Is Not A Business,” in which he talked about how blogging (in and of itself) is not a business model. I wholeheartedly agree with Risley’s post and as I was reading, I forced myself to consider why I blog. read more

Writer’s Constipation

Writing is something I love to do, and allegedly, something I do well. (I say allegedly because I’ve received compliments, yet I compare it to others and can’t help but think about what a long way I have to go.) But as of late it seems as if writing has become more of a challenge for me than ever before. I don’t mean the actual mechanics or the writing, but moreso the translation of what’s in my head onto the page.

Why You Need To Be At Destinations!

Coming this Friday, May 14, is one of my favorite things in the world — Destinations! If you don’t know about Destinations, it’s an Atlanta-based hip-hop/spoken word (with a little R&B) show that I co-host four times a year. The pieces are edgy, honest, and powerful. I want to take this time to invite you to come and and enjoy the show. read more

Jesus Wanted To Separate Church And State?

This week, a friend sent me this piece by Gary Wills who is professor emeritus of history at Northwestern University and the author of several books, including his most recent, “What Jesus Meant.” It’s an interesting take on the intersection of religion, specifically Christianity, and politics. read more

World Fitness Day (#WorldFit) Recap

This past Saturday I had the privilege to cover World Fitness Day as a blogger (as did the rest of the ladies in the above picture). Admittedly, when it comes to working out and fitness, I’m not much of a class person. I can’t quite put my finger on why that is, but I do much better one-on-one or even by myself — heck, give me a pair of running shoes or a bike and I’m good. read more

Why I’ll Be At #WorldFit Day!

Whether we like it or not (and most of us don’t), fitness is a crucial part of our lives. It ensures that we remain healthy, properly functioning, and most importantly, alive. Don’t let the skinny frame fool you — I’m not a fitness buff. I was at one point a few years ago, though. I would be in the gym five days out of the week, cardio for at least an hour and perhaps some weights. read more

The Dangers of Shortsightedness

Recently, I had a friend tell me a sad, but probably all too common story. One of his friends had a daughter who was 14 years old. Although things seemed to be going well in the daughter’s life from the outside, she must’ve been a different person on the inside. Late one afternoon her younger, six year old brother walked into their shared bathroom to find that his sister had hung herself. Obviously shocked and scared, the boy let out a blood curdling scream, causing their mother to come rushing. Their mother ran into the room, snatched her down and upon detecting a faint pulse, began emergency procedures and what able to resuscitate her. While the girl survived her suicide attempt, because of the lack of blood flowing to her brain for an extended length of time, she has severe brain damage. read more
