Why You Shouldn’t Blog For Money

I recently read a piece from David Risley called, “A Blog Is Not A Business,” in which he talked about how blogging (in and of itself) is not a business model. I wholeheartedly agree with Risley’s post and as I was reading, I forced myself to consider why I blog. read more

Watermelon Smoothies & Lessons in Race

As a friend of mine was returning from her lunch break yesterday, a coworker asks, “Hey, what did you get for lunch?” My friend says, “A smoothie.” Her coworker replies, “What kind of smoothie? Watermelon?” read more

Writer’s Constipation

Writing is something I love to do, and allegedly, something I do well. (I say allegedly because I’ve received compliments, yet I compare it to others and can’t help but think about what a long way I have to go.) But as of late it seems as if writing has become more of a challenge for me than ever before. I don’t mean the actual mechanics or the writing, but moreso the translation of what’s in my head onto the page.

In The Midst Of “I Don’t Know”

[tweetmeme] Burst couldn’t be a more appropriate word. I hung up the phone and burst into tears. Like a water balloon too full, tears spilled out of my eyes, down my cheeks and chin, and landed on the table below. My ears heard the words, they understood the sentences they formed, but my mind wouldn’t let me process or comprehend what I had just heard. I couldn’t fathom why a person would do such a thing.

Why You Need To Be At Destinations!

Coming this Friday, May 14, is one of my favorite things in the world — Destinations! I want to take this time to invite you to come and and enjoy the show. read more

Is It Beauty, Brains, Or Both?

I’m shallow; I’ll admit it. I judge people by their appearances. I make assumptions about their personality and the lifestyle based of what I see. Chances are good you have or do too.

Jesus Wanted To Separate Church And State?

This week, a friend sent me this piece by Gary Wills who is professor emeritus of history at Northwestern University and the author of several books, including his most recent, “What Jesus Meant.” It’s an interesting take on the intersection of religion, specifically Christianity, and politics. read more

World Fitness Day (#WorldFit) Recap

This past Saturday I had the privilege to cover World Fitness Day as a blogger (as did the rest of the ladies in the above picture). Admittedly, when it comes to working out and fitness, I’m not much of a class person. I can’t quite put my finger on why that is, but I do much better one-on-one or even by myself — heck, give me a pair of running shoes or a bike and I’m good. read more

Why Understanding What Is Sin Doesn’t Matter

Society is trained to follow rules and guidelines that it simply amazes me sometimes. One question I get a lot perfectly illustrates this: “Is (insert questionable action here) a sin?” Here’s my question — does it matter? Who really cares? Allow me to clarify. What difference is made in your life by knowing if a particular action is or isn’t a sin? How does that further your walk with Christ? read more
